Who we are

Bruntsfield Designs is a furniture design studio based outside Edinburgh. We design and build considered timber furniture, including our Forma modular shelving system and bespoke commissions.

What information we collect

We only collect information you give us directly, or that is gathered automatically when you visit our website.

Information you provide:

  • Your name, email address, phone number, and any details you include when you submit an enquiry or contact form
  • Your email address if you subscribe to our newsletter
  • Any photos, dimensions, or other information you choose to share with us as part of a design consultation

Information collected automatically:

  • Basic website analytics, including pages visited, time spent on the site, and the device and browser you are using
  • Cookies necessary for the website to function correctly (see the Cookies section below)

We do not collect sensitive personal data, and we do not use automated decision-making or profiling.

How we use your information

We use your information only for the purposes for which it was provided:

  • To respond to your enquiry – when you contact us or submit a project enquiry, we use your details to get back to you and, where relevant, to progress a design consultation or order
  • To send you our newsletter – if you have subscribed, we will occasionally send you updates about new work, products, and studio news. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send
  • To improve our website – anonymised analytics help us understand how people use our site so we can make it better

We will never sell your data to third parties, and we will not use it for any purpose other than those described here.

Our legal basis for processing your data

Under UK GDPR, we process your personal data on the following grounds:

  • Legitimate interests – to respond to enquiries and manage client relationships
  • Consent – for newsletter subscriptions and any non-essential cookies
  • Contract – where we are fulfilling an order or commission on your behalf

How long we keep your data

  • Enquiry and contact form data – we retain correspondence for up to three years in case you return to us or we need to refer back to previous discussions
  • Order and commission records – retained for seven years to comply with HMRC requirements
  • Newsletter subscribers – your email address is held until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it
  • Website analytics – anonymised and aggregated; no personal data is retained

Who we share your data with

We do not sell or rent your personal data. We may share it with a small number of trusted third-party services that help us run our business:

  • Webflow – our website is hosted and built on Webflow, which processes data on our behalf (webflow.com/legal/privacy)
  • Email service providers – used to send and manage newsletter communications
  • Google Analytics– anonymised website analytics

All third-party providers are required to handle your data in accordance with applicable data protection law. Where providers are based outside the UK, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place.

Cookies

Our website uses cookies – small text files placed on your device. We use:

  • Essential cookies – required for the website to function (e.g. session management). These cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics cookies – used to understand how visitors use our site. These are only placed with your consent.

You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings at any time. Disabling analytics cookies will not affect your ability to use the site.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct any inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Erase your data (the "right to be forgotten"), where no legal obligation requires us to retain it

  • Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent
  • Data portability – to receive a copy of your data in a commonly used format
